European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell stated on Tuesday that the bloc's attitude is that Israel has the right to defend itself from Hamas's attacks but must follow international humanitarian law while doing so.
Speaking at a press conference following an emergency meeting of the EU foreign ministers, Borrell urged Israel not to halt water and electricity supply to Palestine, among other things. He noted certain violations of international humanitarian law have already been observed.
Additionally, Borrell confirmed the ministers agreed the bloc's program of providing Palestine with aid must continue, as well as communication with the Palestinian Authority. He also expressed the EU's support for the two-state solution.
