Markets in the Asia-Pacific region traded mostly lower during Tuesday's session following the Bank of Japan's (BoJ) announcement that it will maintain the current interest rate at a negative 0.1%. Shareholders also examined Japan's most recent unemployment rate, industrial production and retail sales and China's manufacturing Purchasing Manager's Index (PMI).
Hong Kong's Hang Seng plunged by 1.77% or 308 points at 5:57 am CET. At the same time, China's Shenzhen Composite slid by 0.98% and the Shanghai Composite lost 0.38%. The South Korean Kospi Composite was 1.37% down. Japan's Nikkei 225 added 0.41% while the Australian S&P/ASX 200 rose by 0.15%.
At 5:56 am CET, the dollar rose by 0.70% compared to the yen, going for ¥150.14750.
