Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said in a Telegram post on Monday that if Western countries decide to set up a military base in Ukraine, Russia will attack it.
Commenting on the prepared European Union Declaration on Security Guarantees for Ukraine, Medvedev stated that the document allows Kiev to enter into agreements with other countries on arms supplies, military training, and military programs financing, as well as the creation of military bases.
"And here the question is how they will interpret Article 5 of the Washington Treaty. In other words, when Russia strikes such a base (which will inevitably happen, since the base's personnel have come to fight against us on purpose), will the alliance countries be ready to collectively retaliate against our country for destroying a base established by a NATO country?" Medvedev concluded.
