The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken's comment on Taiwan elections "seriously" violates the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communique and "sends a wrong signal" to Taiwan separatist forces.
Beijing again called on Washington to end its support with Taipei and not to seek to resolve the Taiwan issue.
The day before, Blinken congratulated Lai Ching-te of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on the victory in Taiwan's presidential elections. The island's newly-elected president vowed to "safeguard" territorial integrity and sovereignty from China.
