Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates said at the World Economic Forum on Wednesday that the global demand for resources exceeds the resources available, adding that the scope of issues regarding the war in Ukraine, the Middle East, climate change, and basic development in the global South is "pretty incredible."
Gates said the global North should be "pushed to be more generous" and focus its funding on higher-impact areas. He claimed that there is "far too little innovation" in the areas meeting the needs of the global South and that innovation must accelerate in order to counter the lack of funding coming from the North.
