Climate change poses a threat to all countries, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov said at the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Khankendi, EDnews reports.
Japarov thanked President Ilham Aliyev, saying that holding the summit in Khankendi was of particular importance.
Japarov said that economic development is closely related to climate change:
"Climate change poses a threat to all countries. It makes it necessary to reconsider all areas of life, including the energy sector. I call for increased efforts in the areas of renewable energy and other areas. We will host the Second Global Mountain Summit Bishkek+25 in 2027," he noted.
The president of Kyrgyzstan emphasized that one of the most important projects at present is the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway:
"Its construction will accelerate communication between our countries and contribute to economic development. We are interested in cooperation in strengthening virtual security and reducing cybercrime."
Japarov said that today's summit took place amid the tensions in the Middle East:
"The escalation of the Iran-Israel conflict is creating a dangerous situation in the entire region. Kyrgyzstan supports a peaceful resolution of the issue within the framework of international law."
The head of state also noted the importance of taking steps to increase trade turnover among ECO members:
"At the same time, we should facilitate transport and logistics opportunities between countries, and look at visa and customs processes. We propose that countries with access to the sea should have reduced tariffs for port services. It is important to create opportunities for foreign investors for the development of all those areas."
