Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday that Russia is willing to support "any action" that would lead to a ceasefire in the fighting between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages held by the militant group.
"But at the same time we believe that, of course, the actions should be constructive, they should be aimed at a comprehensive solution to the problem within the framework of international law and the previously adopted, well-known resolutions of the [United Nations] Security Council," Peskov stated during a press briefing.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the Hamas-Israel conflict should have been resolved at an early stage, immediately after it began, noting that the chance was missed because the United States blocked the resolution calling for a ceasefire proposed by Russia in the Security Council in October.
