French President Emmanuel Macron will hold an urgent security council meeting on the situation in New Caledonia amid protests that have left people dead and injured, Ednews informs via AFP.
"The head of state canceled his trip to the Seine-Maritime department in the north-west of the country, where he was supposed to open new wind farms, and will take part in a meeting of the security council," the statement said.
On the night of Monday to Tuesday, the High Commission of the French Republic in New Caledonia decided to impose a curfew in Nouméa, any gatherings were also prohibited, the transportation and carrying of weapons throughout New Caledonia, as well as the sale of alcohol.
It was previously reported that security forces arrested 140 people during unrest on Tuesday night in Noumea. Three people died during the riots.
