The closure of the Lachin road from Shusha to Khankendi by Azerbaijani civil society organisations caused a number of discussions in public and political circles.
In his comments to Ednews, political analyst Elshan Manafov, who explained the political motives of the incident, spoke about the danger that the action could create for Azerbaijan.
"Although the control of certain routes by our civilians is understandable from the point of view of their patriotic feelings, it can be considered as an attack on the missions of the peacekeepers agreed with the Moscow Treaty."
The expert noted that if official Baku does not intervene in the course of events within the framework of the legislation, it may create conditions for the involvement of peacekeepers in provocation.
"I think that this kind of action can have a negative effect on the peacekeepers, causing them to be involved in provocation and the Armenians taking advantage of such a situation. There is no doubt that we bring grist to the mill of Armenian nationalists by doing so."
E.Manafov also said that such a situation is favourable for the Pashinyan government and its western patrons.
"Provoking Russia, confronting Azerbaijan in the region is the task set before the Pashinyan government by its patrons in the West. Moreover, the parties related to the Armenian diaspora in the political and military elite of Russia want to prevent Pashinyan's power in the processes in Karabakh by playing the Vardanyan card in the middle, and support the attempts of the Garabagh clan to take revenge on the power in Armenia. However, the root of the issue lies in the conflicting interests of the West and Russia in the region. In such a situation, the emotional actions of our civilians may lead to the intervention of Russian peacekeepers, as was the case in Georgia in 2008."
Expert also noted that in such a situation, he called on the Azerbaijani society to be more vigilant.
"There is a number of people who want to fish in troubled waters, both in the region and within the countries that are parties to the conflict. Therefore, in our relations with official Moscow, we should not deviate from the norms and principles of the agreements reached in February of this year, and we should protect ourselves from actions that will lead the peacekeepers to provocation."
