Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Daniel Hagari said on Friday that the missile that struck the Egyptian city of Taba, leaving six injured, came from the Red Sea area, seemingly noting that Yemen-based forces were involved. However, Egypt now believes it was a drone that struck the city, rather than a missile, al-Qahera News reported.
Hagari confirmed that Israel detected "an aerial threat" in the Red Sea area. "Fighter jets were scrambled to the threat area and the issue is under investigation ... Israel will work together with Egypt and the US and tighten the defense against threats from the Red Sea area," the spokesman said, according to The Times of Israel.
Previously, the United States Navy warship USS Carney intercepted several missiles and drones fired "potentially towards targets in Israel" from Yemen.
