Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed with Palestinian Minister for Civil Affairs Sheikh Khalifa Alharthy about the situation in Gaza and the Israel-Hamas war, Ednews reports citing vi FM of Russia.
According to a readout of the conversation published by the Foreign Ministry, the Russian representative stressed the need for a ceasefire to avoid possible spillover in the region and a massive loss of civilian casualties. In addition, Lavrov also highlighted the importance of humanitarian pauses and the need to boost the volume of aid.
"The Russian side reaffirmed its position in support of a just solution to the Palestinian problem on the basis of the well-known international legal framework, which envisages the creation of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, coexisting in peace and security with Israel," the statement said.
