İsraeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated during a memorial event for the victims of Operation "Al-Aqsa Flood" that some "difficult concessions" would need to be made to secure the return of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. The minister added that the war is filled with complex and unique challenges, and that military measures alone are insufficient to achieve certain objectives.
"It has been a year since the war began. During this year, we have dealt severe blows to our enemies, showing everyone the value we place on our security. But we have also suffered heavy losses.
During this period, we achieved unprecedented successes—Southern Gaza can no longer operate militarily, Hezbollah has lost leaders, the chains of command for both Hezbollah and Hamas have been disrupted, most artillery attacks have been neutralized, and Hezbollah has retreated from the border region," Gallant added.
It should be noted that, on the same day at the memorial event, Israeli President Isaac Herzog also spoke about the ceasefire. He said that the killing of Yahya Sinwar (Editor’s note: the late leader of Hamas) has created a conducive environment for a ceasefire.
