About 51.2 percent of students in Azerbaijan are females, said Elnur Nasibov, Chairman of the Education Development Fund under Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Science and Education, EDnews reports.
Nasibov shared this insight at the panel session titled "The Role of Women in Human Development for Climate Resilience" held within the framework of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Women's Forum in Lachin.
He noted that an educated woman means an educated family, and an educated family means an educated society:
"The fund has allocated 1.2 million manats (approximately $706,000) to support the education of young females. Thanks to this project conducted jointly with the State Committee of Azerbaijan for Family, Women and Children Affairs, 350 young females have received education in the last two years. This is the result of joint activities between the private and public sectors. There are 1.6 million students in Azerbaijan, and 62 percent of them are girls. The participation of girls in vocational education is 36 percent. The Ministry of Science and Education aims to increase this to 40 percent."
Nasibov reminded that the main issue in involving women in education is financial problems: "That is, families direct their financial resources more towards the education of their male children. For this reason, the Educational Student Loan Fund was established in Azerbaijan. More than 26,000 females in Azerbaijan have used education credits."
