The discussions took place during a meeting between the Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and a delegation led by Speaker of the National Assembly of Zimbabwe Jacob Francis Nzwidamilimo Mudenda.
The meeting focused on prospects for developing energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Zimbabwe, as well as the exchange of experience in renewable energy, the oil and gas industry and energy legislation.
The Zimbabwean delegation was briefed on the development path of Azerbaijan's energy sector, the country's contribution to global energy security and measures being taken in the energy transition. It was noted that hydrocarbons will remain an important part of the global energy balance for many years, while Azerbaijan has identified the development of renewable energy sources as a strategic priority.
The meeting also noted that Azerbaijan has established a modern legislative framework in the field of renewable energy in line with international practice and that this framework has already proven effective in practice. Information was also provided on ongoing wind and solar energy projects and "green energy corridor" initiatives.
The Speaker of Zimbabwe's National Assembly said his country was interested in Azerbaijan's experience in developing its energy sector. He stressed the importance of studying Azerbaijan's experience in strengthening energy security, improving the investment environment, developing renewable energy projects, and in energy legislation and financing mechanisms.
The meeting agreed to hold a relevant seminar to share Azerbaijan's experience with Zimbabwe in the model of oil and gas contracts, the legislative framework for renewable energy and investment mechanisms.
