Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has dismissed calls for Tehran to respond in kind to recent remarks by US President Donald Trump, saying Iran will not adopt what he described as a politics of insults, EDnews reports.
Speaking amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington, Pezeshkian said Iran would continue to defend its interests without engaging in inflammatory rhetoric.
“We will not learn this kind of policy from someone whose hands are stained with the blood of children,” Pezeshkian said, in an apparent reference to a US strike that Iranian officials say hit a school and killed more than 100 children.
He also criticized Trump's style of communication, saying, “Someone who cannot speak or express his thoughts without insulting. His speech and thoughts are as much an insult as what he utters. We firmly defend our rights.”
The comments came after Trump, speaking at the NATO summit in Ankara, declared the ceasefire with Iran “over” and sharply criticized Iranian leaders, describing them as “liars,” “scum,” and “vicious, violent, sick people.”
The exchange underscores the deepening war of words between the two countries as tensions continue to escalate following recent military confrontations.
