Journalists participating in the swimming festival organised by the Metropolitan Municipality of Van region of Turkiye dived into Lake Van and witnessed the world's largest microbial life with their own eyes.
Ednews reports that the visitors at Lake Van toured to Altinsach province of Gevash district, where the world's largest microbialites are located. The journalists were supported by the Van Diving School instructor Serkan Ok and the Metropolitan Municipality Fire Protection Department to dive into water and capture wonderful images of microbialites in the memory of the camera.
Kyrgyz journalist Erlan Aknazarov spoke about the impressions of the trip to Lake Van.
"The water of the lake is very different and as big as the sea. Van has beautiful nature and geography. It was wonderful to see the microbialites with the divers. Their underwater pictures were very impressive. It was an incredible experience for me. I will try to bring all my friends here".
The chairman of the Association of Van Lake Activists, Erdogan Özel, who floated on Charpanak Island with the athletes, also participated in the festival.
"Charpanak Island is the 4th largest island of Lake Van. We organised such a festival to attract the attention of tourists to the island. Lake Van is a very special place. We are trying to prove it and introduce it to the world with its history and nature."
It should be noted that the formation of microbialite takes centuries. The world's largest microbialites were discovered in Lake Van.
