Honorary Consulate of Montenegro in Azerbaijan Vugar Aliyev talked to Eurasia Diary about recent activities and programmes organized by the consulate, its plans and future perspectives of culture-economic bilateral relations between the two countries.
Montenegro was the only post-Yugoslav republic which managed to declare its independence from the socialist federation without any war but by vote on referendum.
As a result of the independence referendum held on 21 May 2006, Montenegro’s parliament adopted the Declaration of Independence. Today, Montenegro develops into a stable and democratic state.
Azerbaijan has recognized the country’s independence in 24 July 2006. On 24 April, 2008 protocol has been signed between the governments of Montenegro and Azerbaijan on establishment of diplomatic relations. Since 2012 Azerbaijani diplomatic office actively operates in Podgorica and in 2013 Montenegro’s honorary consulate has been opened in Baku.
"In the recent years, we witness the further development of these relations in a more dynamic way."
Honorary Consulate Vugar Aliyev hailed his country`s relations with Montenegro mentioning the strengthened culture-economic relations between the two countries.
The Honorary Consulate also stressed that Azerbaijan is one of the leading financial partners of Montenegro. Country’s companies and stakeholders actively operate in Montenegro’s economic market. Montenegro in its place is highly interested in investment potential of Azerbaijani companies.
"Bilateral economic relations focuses on tourism sector most as the field is one of the best developed in Montenegro. Within these years countries experienced a mass flow of tourists from Azerbaijan to Montenegro."
Vugar Aliyev noted that in 2013 Montenegro has witnessed increase in the numbers of tourists visiting the country’s beach and resorts which obviously was the consequence of the fact that in that very year flights has been arranged between the countries.
"Between 2013 and 2015 the total number of Azerbaijani tourists visiting Montenegro increased to 12.500. This is high result for such a short period of time."
"The government of Montenegro has also established a visa-free regime for Azerbaijani citizens."
Note that, the citizens of Azerbaijan may enter, pass through and stay in Montenegro for up to 90 days with a valid passport without a visa.
