There is a rather tense situation in both Georgia and Armenia. Supporters of the West in Georgia and supporters of Russia in Armenia are holding protests against the government. Is the coincidence of the processes coincidental? How can the progress and possible consequences of events in both countries affect Azerbaijan?
In a comprehensive analysis of the unfolding situations, Umud Mirzayev, President of the International Eurasia Press Fund, provided insights into the complex dynamics affecting the South Caucasus region.
Addressing the recent turmoil, U. Mirzayev emphasized the distinctive nature of events in Georgia and Armenia. He noted that while both countries are experiencing internal unrest, the underlying causes and manifestations are fundamentally different.
"Each country in the South Caucasus is undergoing unique processes," remarked U. Mirzayev in his statement to Ednews.
"The events unfolding in Georgia and Armenia cannot be simply attributed to a common origin or process."
Mr. Mirzayev underscored Azerbaijan's advantageous position amidst the regional developments, citing its robust development trajectory, territorial integration, and emergence as a key player in international affairs.
Reflecting on the situation in Armenia, he highlighted the historical and ideological factors contributing to internal discord. He pointed to external influences exacerbating tensions and perpetuating conflict, particularly regarding the issue of the Armenian genocide.
"The tension in Armenia stems from divergent factions advocating for peace and conflict," stated Mirzayev. "While some seek reconciliation and acknowledge Azerbaijan's territorial rights, others are driven by revanchist ideologies fueled by external forces."
Turning to Georgia, Umud Mirzayev commented on the ongoing opposition protests against legislation regarding foreign influences. He noted the enduring nationalist sentiment within Georgia, emphasizing its aspirations for independence and European integration despite past geopolitical setbacks.
"I do not anticipate significant spillover effects from the events in Georgia onto Azerbaijan," asserted Mirzayev. "Azerbaijan remains steadfast in its pursuit of stability and peace in the region, guided by its distinct path, economic resilience, and unwavering commitment to regional cooperation."
