“Azerbaijan really demonstrated its strong commitment and leadership in steering the work of NAM, which is not easy to keep the interest of a diverse group of members.”
Amanuel Giorgio, Deputy Permanent Representative of Eritrea to the UN said this to Ednews while commenting on the significance of the Non-aligned Movement in both Azerbaijan and member countries.
A.Girogio noted that he accompanied Ambassador Sophia Tesfamariam, the Permanent Representative of Eritrea, to the UN and to the Ministerial Meeting of the NAM Coordinating Bureau that took place in Baku from 5 to 6 July, preceded by the senior officials meeting held from 3 to 4 July.
“I would like to especially recognize the dynamic work done by Azerbaijan in New York and Baku to successfully adopt the document over 1000 paragraphs, and many other documents”, he added.
According to him, Azerbaijan really demonstrated its strong commitment and leadership in steering the work of NAM, which is not easy to keep the interest of a diverse group with 120 members:
“It required diplomatic skills and much greater efforts throughout the negotiation process leading up to the adoption of the NAM-document-by-consensus. The spirit of solidarity and cooperation will remain an important tool for our countries because the founding principles that were set in Bandung in 1955 are still valid and relevant in our efforts to ensure such things as sovereign equality of states, noninterference in internal affairs, and non-aggression.”
He stressed that as long as the current global challenges persist, the founding principles will remain in effect:
“As a glue for better cooperation and solidarity among NAM members in the promotion of a multipolar world order.”
Amanuel Giorgio expressed his appreciation to the Azerbaijani government as well:
“Once again, let me express my appreciation to the Republic of Azerbaijan for its leadership and the government's support of our movement over the four years of its chairmanship and all the good work accomplished during its tenure.”
