Office of Honorary Consulate of Montenegro in the Republic of Azerbaijan marked 10 years of declaring independence. Honorary Consulate Vugar Aliyev hailed his country`s relations with Montenegro calling the establishment of consulted in Azerbaijan as a “remarkable” event. He noted that, the established diplomatic offices strengthened the culture-economic relations between the two countries.
He later emphasized about the friendship ties between Azerbaijan and Montenegro in terms of the economical, political and cultural relations.
Azerbaijan being one of the first countries who recognized the independence of Montenegro has also issued a statement about the strategically cooperation between the countries.
Azerbaijan led the reconstruction of one of the parks in the city center of capital Podgorica and built a statue of Huseyn Javid which is a clear example of a friendly diplomatic gesture.
During this period countries experienced a mass flow of tourists from Azerbaijan to Montenegro.
Note that, the diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Montenegro has been established on 24 April, 2008. In the recent years, we witness to the further development of these relation.
Earlier the president of Montenegro Filip Vujanović and Foreign Minister have visited Azerbaijan. Last year the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov also paid the first official visit to Montenegro. Azerbaijan`s and Montenegrin ministries of Foreign Affairs signed 6 agreements on mutual development of cooperation and partnership between two countries.
Montenegro has a great strategic position in Western Balkans and Adriatic region and is interested in further development of cooperation in above mentioned fields. Association and membership procedures of country to the European Union have already started. On 19 May 2016, Montenegro has signed a membership agreement with NATO.
