The federal cabinet on Thursday ordered that names of two lawmakers placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) be removed, Express News reported.
The meeting, presided by Prime Minister Imran Khan, passed instructions to remove Mohsin Dawar and Ali Wazir’s name from the list.
The parliamentarians had been barred from flying abroad in November. Citing that their name was on the provisional national identification list (PNIL), the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) took them into custody from the Bacha Khan International Airport.
FIA added that the lawmakers’ were accused in an FIR registered against PTM leaders for a political gathering in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swabi district. The names on PNIL, one of the no-fly lists, are placed on the instructions of law enforcement agencies and orders of FIA director general. Permission from interior ministry is not required for it.
When the Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights expressed concern over the matter, the interior ministry officials clarified that the names were placed by the FIA on the recommendation of K-P Inspector General Salahuddin Mehsud.
