"The delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is a process that has been going on for many years. It would be naive to expect the parties to achieve successful results in this process soon."
This statement came from Tofig Zulfugarov, a former minister of foreign affairs of Azerbaijan while he was commenting on the next telephone conversation between foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia Jeyhun Bayramov and Ararat Mirzonyan.
Touching upon the latest provocations of the Armenian army on the border with Azerbaijan, the political expert said that the recent steps taken by the Armenian government are aimed only at creating imitation of peace.
Irevan’s so-called peace messages are to create the image of its active participation in the negotiation process. They do not want to avoid the traditional policy. The Pashinyan government is trying to create conditions for the continuation of the aggressive policy of predecessors. We should not believe the calls and slogans of the officials of this country for peace, who resorted to various tricks
According to some experts, it is no coincidence that the telephone conversation between Armenian and Azerbaijan Foreign Ministers took place after the telephone conversation of EU Council President Charles Michel with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime minister Nikol Pashinyan.
From his opinion, the EU's participation in the peace processes between Armenia and Azerbaijan should not be depicted as mediation.
"The role of the European Union here is just goodwill in diplomacy. It is commendable that Brussels has organised meetings between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan and assisted in establishing contacts. But mediation is another procedure. During the mediation talks, official documents are drawn up and concrete agreements on any issue are put forward”.
In conclusion, a number of issues should be reflected in the peace agreement to be signed between two neighbouring states.
"The Pashinyan government has adopted five peace principles of Azerbaijan based on the norms of international law. However, the Armenian president does not want to give up the Karabakh policy. They say that Karabakh is not a territorial issue, but a human rights issue. Under the name of this term, they mean the right of Armenian people in Karabakh to self-determination. This indicates that Armenia still tries to ignore the recognition of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
It should be noted that Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzonyan agreed over the phone conversation to hold meetings of the Joint Border Commission, as well as a working group on the development of a peace agreement in the near future.
