Russia is much more intentional to continue the war against Ukraine. For this purpose, military mobilization was even announced in the country on the basis of a one-time payment of 195,000 rubles, that is, approximately 3,150 US dollars. According to reliable sources, Russian President Vladimir Putin has recently signed a decree on this matter.
The decree on military mobilization in Russia has been issued on September 21, and it seems that this time the official Kremlin has resorted to a new method to prevent some of the discontent and military evasion. Although this tactic is partly a reflection of the West, namely NATO, but in fact, it still reflects the old stereotypes of the former Soviet regime. For example, in the US army, the lowest-ranking enlisted men are paid $ 25,000 USD a year, and the highest-ranking officers are paid $ 93,400 USD. And in this method, Russia seems to be baiting a trap - paying once and putting an end to a life once and for all.
Nevertheless, how does the West react to this?
The threat of attack from Russia has primarily affected Ukraine's northern neighbour, Poland. Thus, Poland, which sounded the alarm throughout the country, involved ordinary citizens in military exercises. The country's leadership made a statement about this and noted that the preparation aims at a preventive exercise against Russia's next offensive steps in 2023.
Speaking to Ednews, Vitaly Yarmolenko, an expert of the National Institute of Strategic Studies of Ukraine such exercises are applied not only in Poland, but also in other Eastern European countries.
"Most of the Central and Eastern European countries consider their security and especially the future threat from Russia to be inevitable. At the same time, the Baltic countries and Romania are actively trying to increase their potentiality of purchasing weapons. For example, Latvia recently revised conscription.
As for Poland, the country has been building up its defence capabilities since 2014. Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine became the foundation for a consensus in Polish society about the need to increase its own armed forces and increase weapons purchases. The current conflict has a risk of geographical expansion. The participation of Poland, the Baltic states and other Central European states is quite high in the perspective of the coming years in the event, in the event of continued escalation. "
In addition, the expert called the decision made by the Russian president regarding the one-time payment for military mobilization a kind of tool to attract the low-income class in the country.
"Russia resorts to the latest arguments to encourage the population to participate in the war against Ukraine. Mobilization does not enjoy support in Russian society. Such methods are primarily aimed at the poorest regions of the country. The results of such actions are very doubtful."
Vitaly Yarmolenko also spoke about the positions of the Ukrainian army regarding the recent progress of the war.
"Defense forces of Ukraine continue counteroffensive actions. The most tense situation remains in the Donetsk direction - near the cities of Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Soledar. There is significant potential for Ukrainian forces to succeed in the north of Luhansk and the right bank of Dniro river in Kherson region within the next 1-2 months. The further success of Ukrainian troops will depend on the stability of military support from Western partners and Russia's ability to conduct defense."
