Konul Nurullayeva, a Member of Parliament in Azerbaijan, has expressed apprehension regarding the upcoming US-Armenia-European Union Joint Conference scheduled to take place in Brussels on April 5.
In a statement to Ednews, Mrs. Nurullayeva suggested that the conference, purportedly aimed at discussing regional stability and peace, may have implications contrary to Azerbaijan's interests.
Nurullayeva conveyed concerns that the conference could potentially escalate tensions in the South Caucasus, drawing parallels to a military pact rather than a diplomatic initiative. She voiced suspicions that the conference might pave the way for a scenario akin to the Ukrainian conflict, potentially opening a second front in the Caucasus.
The MP pointed out a perceived lack of reconciliation between the United States and Europe towards Azerbaijan's efforts to reclaim its territories and restore sovereignty. Nurullayeva highlighted Azerbaijan's constructive stance in post-conflict normalization efforts but criticized what she described as persistent pressure from the West. She referenced what she termed as illegal visits of European politicians to Karabakh and overt support for separatism as examples of such pressure.
Emphasizing Azerbaijan's history of victimization due to armed aggression and occupation, Nurullayeva remarked on the absence of what she termed as unconditional support from the EU and the USA. She suggested that such actions might embolden revanchist groups in Armenia and undermine efforts for peace negotiations.
In light of these concerns, Nurullayeva reiterated Azerbaijan's commitment to peace and stability in the region, emphasizing the need for genuine efforts towards reconciliation and resolution of conflicts.
