On April 26th, the Working Group dedicated to demining and unexploded ordnance clearance, operating under the Interdepartmental Center of the Coordinating Headquarters for the centralized resolution of issues in the liberated territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan, conducted a significant visit to the region to assess demining activities.
According to Ednews, this crucial initiative, initially funded by the European Union (EU) and the US State Department, was jointly organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Mine Action Agency of The Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA), the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF), and the Mines Advisory Group (MAG). During their visit, they convened with members of the female deminers project, undertaken through partnership efforts.
Umud Mirzayev, President of the International Eurasia Press Fund, provided insights into the accomplished work, emphasizing its significance for the country's development.
Subsequently, IEPF supervisor Nizami Abbasov and MAG Technical Area Manager Bobby be Deer delivered an extensive presentation to the working group, elucidating the team's endeavors and achievements.
Furthermore, the working group members were briefed on the activities of the APOPO organization, renowned for its demining efforts utilizing specially trained dogs and rats.
Witnessing firsthand the decontamination process of mines and unexploded ordnance, the group gained valuable insights into the challenges and progress in the region.
Expressing his gratitude, Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Management Board of the Mine Action Agency of The Republic of Azerbaijan and head of the working group, commended the courageous efforts of Azerbaijani female deminers.
Concluding the visit, V. Suleymanov provided recommendations and best wishes for the team, highlighting the ongoing commitment to demining efforts in the liberated territories.
