On June 20, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a phone call to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Ednews reports.
Secretary Blinken highlighted the United States' commitment to fostering stronger bilateral relations with Azerbaijan. He assured that the U.S. would support the successful conclusion of the COP29 climate conference, set to be hosted in Azerbaijan.
President Aliyev affirmed the region's peace and reiterated Azerbaijan's foundational role in the peace agreement. He stressed the ongoing efforts to advance the normalization process and highlighted the need to cease territorial claims against Azerbaijan to further the peace agenda.
Additionally, President Aliyev called for the termination of the non-functional OSCE Minsk Group to close the chapter on past conflicts. He praised the long-term energy cooperation between the two countries and expressed gratitude for the U.S. support in the lead-up to COP29.
Both leaders acknowledged the importance of enhancing bilateral relations, with a mutual commitment to human rights, democracy, and respect for internal laws. The conversation also included discussions on high-level exchanges and satisfaction with the mutual visits of delegations.
