Ednews reports that, with the support of the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF), the implementation of a new project has begun under the auspices of the State Support Agency for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The project titled "Mine-Free World Initiative - as the 18th Sustainable Development Goal of the UN" has started its execution. Selected for its relevance during the international COP29 event in our country, where environmental issues are of paramount importance, the main goal of this project is to support efforts to identify the impact of mines on human health and nature, particularly the barriers they pose to global peace and development. The initiative aims to support efforts aimed at resolving the humanitarian crisis caused by mines and creating a safer world for future generations.
The main activities of the project will be organized at IEPF's headquarters in Baku. During the project's implementation, IEPF will collaborate with "Roots of Peace," an organization with longstanding activities in this field, and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, a prominent institution in Europe. The project envisages organizing international conferences, online discussions with influential experts, and preparatory meetings at the UN's Geneva office, as well as educational campaigns in the media.
It is noteworthy that within the framework of the project, a Parallel Session during the "Geneva Peace Week" is planned to be held at the UN's Geneva office from October 14-18. The event will provide information about Azerbaijan's mine problem and mine victims at the international level, and will call for support for the SDG 18 initiative. The "Geneva Peace Week," held annually, expects the participation of over 500 diplomats, government officials, and ministers, which aims to attract the attention of the international community and influential organizations, thereby enhancing the project's impact and scope.
