Ukraine has made an official request to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to conduct an investigation into the possible use of chemical weapons by Russia during military operations, EDnews reports, citing the Al Arabia.
The reason for the request was the data of Dutch and German intelligence on the large-scale use of prohibited ammunition by Russia along the front line. According to the Dutch military intelligence, at least three cases of death of Ukrainian soldiers may be related to the use of chemical substances. More than 2,500 wounded reported symptoms that may indicate the use of chemical weapons.
Kyiv's request was submitted on the eve of a four-day meeting of the OPCW Executive Council, headquartered in The Hague, which includes representatives of 41 countries. Kyiv insists on the creation of an independent and impartial mechanism to collect evidence and identify those responsible for the possible use of chemical weapons.
There has been no official comment from the organization yet. Amid the accusations, the UK announced the introduction of sanctions against two Russian citizens and one organization.
