As part of the Second Shusha Global Media Forum themed “Unmasking False Narratives: Confronting Disinformation”, on July 22, Azerbaijan's Shusha will host a presentation of a report entitled “The Evolution of French Colonialism: A Political and Constitutional Study” by the famous American UN expert, Dr. Carlisle Corbin, compiled by the order of the Baku Initiative Group, EDnews informs.

The presentation will be made by the author of the document, as well as the executive director of the Baku Initiative Group, Abbas Abbasov.

The study of about 140 pages tells the history of the colonization of former and current French colonies - Vietnam, Algeria, New Caledonia (Kanaky), French Polynesia (Maohi Nui), Saint-Martin, Saint-Barthélemy, Mayotte (considered a territory of the Union of the Channel Islands), Reunion, Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guinea, and also provides information on contemporary French colonial policy.

The report, compiled on the basis of international legal documents, provides extensive information about the crimes committed and currently being committed by France (ethnic cleansing, slave trade, repression of the local population, arrests and murders, famine, etc.), the failure of this country to fulfill UN resolutions, as well as the political, military-strategic and economic interests of France, which are at the root of the crimes mentioned.

The processes taking place in New Caledonia are based on French President Emmanuel Macron’s ignorance of the demands of the local population regarding the decolonization process and his desire to forcibly advance his colonial policy.

In addition, it is noted that attempts by French officials to pass off the recent unrest in New Caledonia as the intervention of external forces, in particular Azerbaijan, are baseless, and this is aimed at distracting the international community from the legitimate demands of the local Kanak people.

The study will serve to raise awareness of the world community about the actions of the French government in the colonies that are contrary to international law and draw attention to the problem of colonialism.

The report is also planned to be sent to the UN and its specialized agencies, as well as the Non-Aligned Movement, the European Union, the African Union, the OSCE and other international organizations.
