During the night of the 28th of May, on the 81st year of life, the Founder and Executive Secretary International Sustainable Energy Organization (ISEO), a member of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Platform Gustav Grob, very unexpectedly passed away.
Gustav Grob was born on March 23, 1937. He served as President of the International Clean Energy Consortium ICEC, which he co-founded shortly after the 2nd World Climate Conference to respond to the urgent need for a clean, sustainable energy economy. In 2002, as Executive-Secretary and initiator, Dr. Grob founded the International Sustainable Energy Organization (ISEO), which coordinates global efforts towards clean and renewable energies. ISEO combines the work of many UN and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and is a driving force towards a global energy legislation and standardization.
Gustav Grob was an expert on renewable energy and has been a key speaker at a number of high profile environmental conferences including the historic UN Climate Conference in Rio de Janeiro (1992) and the International Conference for Renewable Energies in Bonn (2004).
Gustav Grob was a partner and a good friend of the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF), non-governmental international organization, based in Azerbaijan, which is enjoying a General Consultative status with the UN ECOSOC. In 2016, within the 25th World Clean Energy Conference held in Geneva, the IEPF President Umud Mirzayev, the ISEO President Gustav Grob and the President of Arab Platform for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Kamel Esseghairi signed the “Three Legs” Africa-Asia-Europe Partnership with an objective to advocate and support sustainable and clean electricity production and utilization.
Gustav Grob actively participated in a number of international events, initiated by the IEPF, and held in the UN Office in Geneva. While attending the events, Gustav Grob was talking about the importance of peacebuilding in the Karabakh region between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He was suggesting restoring the Karabakh as a free from the occupational forces multi-cultural zone of sustainable development within Azerbaijan to implement peaceful ideas for the formation of the sustainable society in accordance with the UN SGDs.
In March 2017, Gustav Grob joined the Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Platform with the statement, where he acknowledged the importance of the peaceful solution of Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in accordance with the respect and support to both the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Republic of Armenia and the internationally recognized borders of both states.
Dr. Grob was the author of numerous publications on energy, sustainable development, standardization and business ethics. Prior his unexpected death, he was actively working on promotion of the Karabakh Rescue Plan among the colleagues in the UN entities with an aim to attract more attention to resolution of the conflict. He was planning to come to Azerbaijan in near future to have some important meetings in this content.
