The Ambassador of Mexico to Azerbaijan, Rodrigo Labardini, participated in the 110th meeting of the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization, which took place in Baku, on June 16-18.
As is known, Mexico is positioned as the sixth most visited country in the world and the second most visited destination in the Americas. History, culture, gastronomy, as well as the climate and geographical situation, make Mexico an attractive destination for international tourists.
The development of tourism contributes both the image of the country in the world, as well as the national economy. According to official figures, tourism constitutes approximately 8.7% of the Mexican GDP and generates 4.1 million direct jobs and 6.5 million indirect jobs. Mexico receives 41.4 million passengers, and ranks 16th in foreign exchange, with 22.5 billion dollars per year.
Today, the country has a network of 76 airports, 64 of which are international. The 56.1 percent of tourists that arrive to Mexico by air come from the United States and 11.5 percent from Canada. The main destinations are: Cancun, Riviera Maya, Mexico City, Los Cabos, Mazatlan and Guadalajara.
Currently, the tourist proposal of the Mexican Government seeks to generate a balanced regional tourism development that consolidates existing destinations, as well as expands tourism potential, creating multiple and varied alternatives according to the attractions of each area of the country.
