According to Eurostat’s latest study, Türkiye has once again ranked first among European Union (EU) and candidate countries in terms of the longest weekly working hours.
The study, based on 2025 data from the European Statistical Office (Eurostat), compares average weekly working hours across Europe.
EDnews reports that, according to the findings, Türkiye has the longest working hours on the continent.
According to the table, the top five countries with the longest average weekly working hours are as follows:
- Türkiye — 42.4 hours
- Bosnia and Herzegovina — 40.9 hours
- Serbia — 40.6 hours
- Greece — 39.6 hours
- North Macedonia — 39.5 hours
The published figures show that, after Türkiye, the longest working schedules are mainly observed in the Balkan countries. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia are also among the countries exceeding the 40-hour weekly working threshold. Greece and North Macedonia complete the top five with an average of around 39.5 hours.
Experts note that the length of working hours is directly linked to countries’ economic structures, labour market legislation and productivity indicators.
