"Novruz Bayramı" or Novruz holiday is one of the main national holidays of Azerbaijanis.
In Azerbaijan, every family gives special significance to have this spring holiday. Novruz reflects the revival of the nature, a new source of life with the coming of spring. In that day, all those that have fallen out reconcile and get together for better future plans. Shakarbura, Pakhlava, Goghal, Plov (steamed rice) dyed eggs and many other sweets and cookies are the traditional symbols of the Novruz holiday.
However the main symbol of this holiday is Samani – green grass grown from wheat on a plate. The ancient traditions of Novruz are significantly considered in Azerbaijan. Those traditions include national dances, singing songs, putting hats at doors which are supposed to be filled with sweets by tenants. These traditions are observed by people in both countryside and cities.
