The embassy of Azerbaijan in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has been attacked by members of a radical religious group based in the United Kingdom. According to the media reports, Shiite extremist organization "The Mahdi Servants Union", immigrants from Kuwait are being held responsible for the attack.
Speaking to Ednews about the issue, the deputy chairman of the Press Council, the president of the International Eurasia Press Fund, Umud Mirzayev, said that this is an insidious intention of radical groups against Azerbaijan. He said that the vandalism against the diplomatic mission was intended to cause provocation.
"Undoubtedly, these cases are the result of some subversive group shouting false slogans in the name of religion. What happened is unacceptable. The expression of such ideas and slogans is a great damage to the values of humanity. I strongly condemn this incident and consider it unacceptable."
The IEPF president also commented on the opinions that the incident was perpetrated by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
"Members of this organization once organized an attack on the Iranian embassy. But there is no concrete evidence or fact proving that the organization acted on the orders of the Iranian leadership. Their ideology and thinking threaten the security of our country. "The fight against extremist religious trends should be carried out not only on the level of law enforcement, but also on an ideological basis."
Umud Mirzayev also noted that throwing down the Azerbaijani flag cannot be in line with any religious belief.
"Tens of thousands of patriots died fighting heroically for the flag of Azerbaijan. Such a step is not suitable for any religion or belief. At the same time, this event contradicts our statehood and human values.
"Insulting that flag is an insult not only to the state of Azerbaijan, but to the citizens of the country in general and a threat to our statehood."
In the end, U.Mirzayev summed up his thoughts as follows:
"I think that the "Revenge" operation worried someone and they tried to create some confusion in Azerbaijan by using religion. Because since yesterday, the attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Britain has been widely shared in the Armenian media. We are guessing which forces caused the provocation, but "as a result of investigations, the real causes of the incident will be determined. We strongly condemn the incident and consider it unacceptable."
