A person who burned the Azerbaijani Flag has been put on the international wanted list, Ednews reports citing the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
"As reported, on April 14, at the opening ceremony of the European Weightlifting Championship, held in the Armenian capital Yerevan, demonstrative actions aimed at inciting national hatred and enmity, the state flag of Azerbaijan was publicly burned. On this fact, the Investigation Department of the General Prosecutor's Office continues to investigate the criminal case initiated by the General Prosecutor of the Republic of Azerbaijan under Articles 12.2, 283.2.1, 12.2, 283.2.2 and 12.2, 324 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to the preliminary investigation, a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, a native of the city of Yerevan, born on September 28, 1982, head of the design studio of the Public Television of Armenia Nikolyan Aram Vrezhi, together with a group of persons whose identity is currently unknown, deliberately set fire to the Azerbaijani flag at the opening ceremony of the European Championship in for the purpose of committing crimes against the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan and its interests on the basis of national hatred, aimed at inciting hatred against Azerbaijan, as well as humiliating national dignity.
On April 19, Aram Nikolyan was charged as a defendant under articles 12.2, 283.2.1, 12.2, 283.2.2 and 12.2, 324 of the Criminal Code and, based on a court decision, was put on the international wanted list with a measure of restraint in the form of arrest.
In order to conduct an investigation of this criminal case by the Prosecutor General's Office, within the framework of international cooperation, requests for legal assistance were sent to law enforcement agencies of foreign states with a request to carry out the necessary investigative actions against Aram Nikolyan, as well as to detain him and extradite him to the Republic of Azerbaijan if he crosses the state borders.
