Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn was left embarrassed after his reaction to a terrible miss against Brighton revealed a shocking tattoo.
Spurs enjoyed a fine day in north London as Harry Kane led them to a comfortable 3-1 win over the Seagulls in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Kane put the hosts ahead with a brilliant curling effort from outside the box before Solly March inadvertently deflected Emerson Royal’s cross into his own net to make it 2-0.
Yves Bissouma pulled one back with a deflected effort, but Kane was on hand to slide in Tottenham’s third after Son Heung-min’s brilliant run caused chaos in the Brighton defence.
There was further enjoyment for Spurs fans, who saw new signings Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur play in a lilywhite shirt for the first time.
But it was a less happy day for Bergwijn, who was guilty of missing a brilliant chance from Kulusevski’s pass in the second half.
The Dutchman spooned his first-time effort way over the bar after being played in by the debutant in acres of space.
What’s worse, his exasperated reaction allowed a photographer to snap a picture of a tattoo on the inside of his right thigh, which reads “BLOOD THICKER THEN WATER”.
Bergwijn can perhaps be forgiven for his lack of understanding of English grammar, but the tattoo artist surely should have noticed the mistake.
Unfortunately for Bergwijn, Spurs fans did notice – and quickly shared their thoughts online.
“Finding out Bergwijn has a tattoo spelled wrong on his thigh has made my day,” wrote one fan on Twitter.
“I will never be able to look at Bergwijn again without thinking about the typo on his tattoo,” added another.
