Israeli fighters hit military targets of the Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip on Monday in response to a rocket fired into Israel on Sunday evening, reports citing Bulgarian Military News.

“Earlier on Sunday night, a rocket was fired from the Gaza Strip at Israel. In response, Israeli fighters and aircraft recently hit Hamas terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip,” the statement said. Among the affected objects, the military listed underground structures, as well as a concrete factory for the construction of tunnels.

“The army considers any terrorist activity against Israel with great seriousness and will continue to act, if necessary, against attempts to harm the Israeli civilian population,” the press service noted and made Hamas responsible for all events taking place in or from the Gaza Strip.

On Sunday evening, Palestinian radicals from the Gaza Strip fired one missile at Israeli territory, it was intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system. Prior to this, the army press service informed that air raid sirens were activated in the city of Sderot in the south of the Jewish state and in a number of areas adjacent to the Gaza Strip.

The previous time, Palestinian radicals from Gaza fired a missile on July 5, it was intercepted by the Israeli air defense system. In response, Israeli planes and fighters also attacked Hamas military targets in the sector.

Prior to that, two missiles were fired from the sector at Israel on June 26 and one missile each on June 15, May 6 and March 27. In response, the Israeli army launched strikes on Hamas military targets. recalls that on June 27 the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched a big assault over the Gaza Strip, hitting several areas, including Khan Younis.

According to Palestinian activists then, the Israeli Defense Forces primarily used heavy artillery and airstrikes to hammer the southern part of the Gaza Strip, with the main focus being the Khan Younis region.

Furthermore, local media said that an Israeli warplane bombed east of the city of Deir al-Balah, without causing any injuries or damage to the place.

Israeli artillery bombarded another site with two rocket-propelled grenades east of Gaza City, where it was found that the shelling targeted a monitoring post of Hamas.

In a related context, the Israeli Iron Dome system monitored Friday evening the launch of two rockets from the Gaza Strip towards Israel.

Israeli Channel 13 reported that “the two rockets landed, one in an uninhabited area on the Israeli side of the border, while the other landed inside the strip.”

This latest incident comes at a time of heightened tensions between the Palestinian leadership and Israeli authorities over the possible annexation of the West Bank.
