Montana lawmakers voted on Friday in favor of a bill banning Chinese social media app TikTok on all devices in the state, Ednews reports citing Teletrader.
The legislation, passed with a 54-43 vote, also prohibits app stores from offering the app and bans TikTok operations within state lines. The bill will now be sent to Governor Greg Gianforte who will decide whether to sign it into law.
If signed, Montana will become the first US state to completely ban the app. Earlier, the US Congress banned TikTok on lawmakers' work devices and is looking into a broader ban of the app over alleged security concerns.
