White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Tuesday underscored that the charges brought against Wall Street Journal correspondent Evan Gershkovich in Russia are "baseless."
Ednews reports citing Wall Street Journal that "The Biden-Harris administration is engaging with Russia through every available channel to bring Evan and fellow American Paul Whelan home, who is also a priority to us," the White House press secretary stressed during the press briefing, calling for their immediate release.
The United States Ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy met with Gershkovich on April 17 at Lefortovo Prison. According to the envoy, the 32-year-old remains "strong" and in "good health." Last month, the American journalist was detained in Russia on allegations of espionage, to which he reportedly pled not guilty.
