The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) disabled malware allegedly used by Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) to steal documents from NATO members and other countries, according to an affidavit unsealed on Tuesday, EDnews informs.
An FBI agent testified in federal court that the bureau neutralized the software that the Russian intelligence agency had been using for decades to route sensitive information through infected computers in the US. He stated that the malware, named "Snake," was recognized as Moscow's top espionage instrument, asserting that the move would pose significant challenges for Russia.
Last April, Washington detained Air National Guardsman Jack Teixeira for leaking classified US intelligence documents which later appeared on Telegram channels in the Russian language.
