Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu underscored on Tuesday that Havana remains Moscow's "most important ally" in the Caribbean, underscoring that Cuba "fully understands" Russia's motives behind the military operation in Ukraine.
The bilateral relations between the two countries are "on the rise," Shoygu said during the meeting with Cuban Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces Corps General Alvaro Lopez Miera, adding that Moscow is "ready" to provide assistance to Havana which currently faces "illegal" trade and economic "blockade" by Washington. Furthermore, Shoygu proposed that the two countries should consider deepening their cooperation in the military field.
Previously, Moscow emphasized that it will provide its utmost support to Cuba in securing fuel and grain.
