The Iraqi Foreign Ministry said that it will take measures to prevent any further attacks on diplomatic missions in the country after the recent incident at the Swedish embassy.
"The Iraqi government is fully committed to the Vienna Convention that regulates diplomatic relations among countries and assures all resident diplomatic missions of their security and protection," the ministry stated. "What happened to the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden in Baghdad cannot be repeated, and any similar act will be subject to legal accountability," it added.
Earlier in the week, protesters stormed and set fire to the Swedish embassy after the Scandinavian country granted permission for another Quran-burning protest in Stockholm.
