President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov commented on the detention of his nephew Ulan Japarov, Ednews informs.
In an interview with the Kabar agency, the president said that if a person is associated with corruption, then whoever he is, he should be arrested.
“You will leave only when you compensate the damage to the state in double size. If you don’t pay, you won’t leave. If I don’t detain him because ‘he’s my brother,’ then other brothers will start interfering,” the president said.
He stressed that now the time is different and everyone should be treated equally.
Ulan Japarov was detained by the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs on suspicion of participating in corruption schemes at customs. He is the son of Rakymjan Japarov, the president’s cousin. Ulan Japarov has been placed in pre-trial detention center No. 1 until July 26.
