BAE Systems, the largest British defense corporation, has received arms orders worth a record $84 billion, Ednews informs referring to The Times.
In 2023, the corporation has already signed contracts, in particular, for the production of military vehicles for the Czech Republic for $2.3 billion and for the supply of weapons and equipment in accordance with the British program for the modernization of the nuclear submarine fleet for $3 billion. The Typhoon deal with Saudi Arabia was worth $4.7 billion. An order for the production of 155 mm artillery shells and other ammunition has been received from the British government for $360 million.
According to the financial director of the company Brad Greve, the conflict in Ukraine affects the overall situation in the world. The governments of a number of countries are increasingly paying attention to priorities in the field of defense in comparison with other areas, the newspaper quotes him as saying. There is an acceleration in the implementation of defense programs, he added.
According to Charles Woodburn, head of BAE Systems, the dramatic change in global defense spending requires a significant expansion of industrial capacity in the UK and continental Europe.
