Niger's military junta has asked the Wagner Group for help, the AP said Saturday, citing an analyst with knowledge of the matter and diplomatic contacts. According to the report, junta leaders prepare for an imminent attack as a deadline approaches to free the country's ousted president.
The request came during a visit by coup leader Gen. Salifou Mody to Mali. There he contacted someone from Wagner. Three Malian sources and a French diplomat confirmed the meeting. Separately, a Western military official, who spoke anonymously since he was not authorized to comment, confirmed reports of Niger's request.
