Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen stressed on Sunday that the country will oppose the opening of the Saudi consulate to Palestinian Authority following Riyadh's decision to appoint an envoy for the Palestinian Territories.
"They do not need to ask for our permission. They did not consult with us and they do not need to," the foreign minister said in an interview with 103 FM Radio. "The Saudis want to let the Palestinians know that they haven't forgotten them. But we do not allow countries to open consulates," Cohen added.
Last week, The Wall Street Journal reported that Washington and Riyadh reached a preliminary agreement defining the terms for Saudi Arabia to recognize Israel in return for Palestinian concessions, but Washington later denied the report.
