Economic Community of West African States Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security Abdel-Fatau Musah (pictured) said on Friday that the group's militaries are "ready to go anytime the order is given" on a potential military intervention in Niger even though ECOWAS also remains prepared for a peaceful resolution of the regional crisis.
The official made the comment at the end of the bloc's summit in Accra, Ghana, and also noted that the possible "D-day" for the ECOWAS intervention is set but that it will not be revealed at this time. "The coup in Niger is one coup too many for the region" and the bloc will not "engage in endless dialogue," Musah warned.
Nevertheless, ECOWAS is preparing a "mediation mission" that could visit Niger on August 19, he also revealed.
