The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (GUR MO) said on Wednesday that the country's forces "destroyed" a Russian missile defense system in Crimea and the personnel working on it.
"On August 23, 2023, around 10:00 am [local time], an explosion occurred near the village of Olenivka on Cape Tarkhankut in the temporarily occupied Crimea, which destroyed the Russian S-400 'Triumph' long and medium-range anti-aircraft missile system," the GUR MO stated on Telegram. "As a result of the explosion, the installation itself, the missiles installed on it and the personnel were completely destroyed," it added and called the move a "painful blow" to Russian defense systems.
Earlier, Russia described Ukraine's attacks on Crimea, which Russia made a part of its territory in 2014 in a move that was unrecognized by the global community, as "terrorist" actions, while Kiev insisted it wants to "reclaim the whole Crimea because it is our sovereign territory."
