The Niger junta has no right to expel the French ambassador from the country, the French Foreign Ministry was quoted as saying by AFP.
"France has taken note of the rebels' demand. The rebels do not have the authority to make such a request. The lawfully elected authorities of Niger are responsible for accrediting the ambassador," the ministry insisted.
Previously, the Niger military government gave the French ambassador 48 hours to leave the country.
