For the 11th day, firefighters have been unable to localize a powerful wildfire in the Evros region in northeastern Greece, and the fire is gradually approaching the border with Türkiye, Ednews informs referring to Interfax.
At least 21 people have died in this fire within ten days, making the natural calamity the deadliest in Europe this summer.
The fire is extinguished by 475 firefighters, 100 fire trucks, six fire planes and four specialized helicopters.
According to the EU Copernicus Climate Change Service, the fire in Evros, which broke out on August 19, burned more than 80,000 hectares of land, which is why it has already been recognized as one of the largest in Europe in recent years.
In southern Greece, firefighters are trying to put out small fires near Mount Parnitha, involving 260 firefighters and a helicopter.
